SWHQ 810-473-2020 Filenote Tips....
Out BBS software (CNet) currently supports both a SHORT filenote and a
LONG filenote for each file online.
After each upload SWHQ will prompt you for a short-note. You have
3 lines of 42 characters each, in which to describe your upload.
We realize it is sometimes difficult enter a useful description in
that space. We would prefer your filenote help other users in
positively identifying the file. This will help prevent duplicate
uploads (a waste to both uploader and the system). And also help
others from download files they already own (a waste to both
downloader and the system).
Example filename: PUZZLE.ARC
The filenote should *NOT* contain:
1) The string "Puzzle", for this already appears in the filename.
2) Any information that this is an ARC'ed file. This is already
obvious by the ".ARC" extension.
3) Any phrases like, "This file is...", "A file that can...",
"A really great way to...".
These phrases can usually be omitted, skipping right to the
file's description itself.
The filenote *SHOULD* contain (as space permits):
1) The version number (if any) written in format v1.9
2) The author's full name. (or 1st initial and last name if lengthy)
3) The date (as given in the docs file, if any) in the format 01Jan89
4) Correct upper and lower case characters.
Example:
[----5----10---15---20---25---30---35---40---45---50---55]
Sliding squares game, v1.9 B.Beogelein 01Jan92
Also check the [T]ext-Menu "commonly used abbreviations".
They can also help you squeeze informative filenotes into space
provided.
If you wish to leave a longer filenote, after your upload is complete
you'll have an opportunity to leave up to a 100-line note.
